Fostering a parrot

Becoming a Foster for CWA

The process of becoming a foster for CWA is very similar to the adoption process.  It starts with an application we have provided below for you to fill out.  Once the application is submitted, you will receive an email indicating if your application was approved or denied.  If you application is denied, we will inform you of the reasons why and you can re-apply.

If your application is approved, the next step is the home-check.  A volunteer or board member will come to your house  ( at an agreed upon time of course), meet you and your family, discuss potential dangers or safety concerns in your home, and basic care needs like diet, food, exercise, and cage placement for your foster bird.  If we do not have a volunteer or board member in your area, we may ask you to send in a detailed home video and follow up with a conference call.

Quarantine is probably the MOST important aspect of fostering for CWA.  Since you are opening up your home to a bird or birds that have not yet been to the vet, you have no way of knowing if that bird is carrying a disease or not.  Following the strict quarantine protocols that we have listed on our foster agreement is non-negotiable.

Thank you for choosing to open up your heart and home to a homeless parrot!
